Spartanburg Community College Students Named 2026 Christopher A. Calhoun Scholars
SPARTANBURG, SC — Spartanburg Community College (SCC) is proud to announce that two students, Ashley Tinsley and Roxana Arias, have been selected as 2026 Christopher A. Calhoun Scholars. Each student will receive a $1,000 scholarship to be applied toward the fall 2026 academic term.
The Christopher A. Calhoun Transfer Scholarship is awarded annually to South Carolina students who achieve high-ranking scores in the prestigious All-USA Academic Team Competition. The All-USA program is widely recognized as one of the nation’s most distinguished academic honors for students pursuing associate degrees. It celebrates students who extend their education to better themselves, their colleges, and their communities.
Tinsley and Arias were selected for their outstanding academic achievement, leadership, and commitment to service. As members of Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society for two-year colleges, both students exemplify the values of scholarship, leadership, service, and fellowship.
“We are very thankful for donors such as Christopher Calhoun who understand the importance of what recognition can do in a student’s life,” said Amanda Karpinski-Gorman, Executive Director of the Phi Theta Kappa Foundation. “Mr. Calhoun is paying forward the opportunity he received after being recognized for his achievement as a Phi Theta Kappa member.”
“We are incredibly proud of Ashley and Roxana for earning this prestigious recognition,” said Dr. Michael Mikota, President of Spartanburg Community College. “Their hard work and leadership are an inspiration to our college community. We are equally grateful to Advisor Tim Arnold for his five years of service to our Phi Theta Kappa chapter, whose commitment has helped create opportunities for student success like this.”
SCC congratulates Ashley Tinsley and Roxana Arias on this significant accomplishment and looks forward to their continued success as they pursue their academic and professional goals.
