Spartanburg Community College has launched the only injection molding training program in South Carolina.

SCC says its repeatedly heard from business leaders in the area about the difficulty of finding people who are trained.

A new training program is coming to an Upstate college. Spartanburg Community College says it's now offering the only injection molding training in the state.

"There's a real demand for that," Warren Snead, Human Resources Manager at Cooper Standard. "Yet, we don't have programs for it at this time."

"The automotive industry in the Upstate is certainly a big player," Snead said. "We employ a large percentage of the population."

SCC says it's repeatedly heard from business leaders in the area about the difficulty of finding people who are trained in injection molding.

"Within a 50 mile radius there are over 25 companies that need this type of training specifically," Michael Mikota, President of Spartanburg Community College, said. "And beyond South Carolina, in Georgia, in North Carolina others are asking for this type of training already."

SCC says the nearest injection molding training program from Spartanburg County is in Tennessee.

SCC says its first injection molding program runs in the evenings starting Oct. 26 and goes through Dec. 9.
